AutoRepairCost is an independent Australian car repair cost estimator built by Bo Qi, a full-stack engineer and automotive data specialist.

Why We Built This

After moving to Australia and trying to find realistic repair pricing for a used car, I discovered that every online resource either showed US pricing, gave vague national averages, or was trying to sell me a service I didn't need. The information that Australian car owners actually need — what does a timing belt replacement cost for MY car, in MY city, at an independent workshop vs a dealer — simply didn't exist in one place.

So I built it. Using my background in data engineering and a passion for the automotive aftermarket, I compiled a structured dataset of 672 repair cost estimates across 30 car brands, calibrated to Australian workshop pricing and state-specific labour rates.

Our Approach

We're not a repair shop, and we don't take commissions from workshops. Our estimates are built from:

• Published Australian workshop pricing and dealer service schedules
• Brand-level cost modelling (European parts premiums, budget-brand discounts)
• State-by-state labour rate data from all 8 states and territories
• Ongoing calibration against real user submissions and market changes

Our Data

The full dataset behind this site — 672 estimates across 30 brands × 24 repair types — is available for commercial licensing via our Data API. It powers tools for used-car platforms, fleet management systems, and insurance products.
