Our Data Methodology

AutoRepairCost is an independent automotive data aggregator. We collect, clean and model publicly available Australian repair pricing to produce a neutral cost benchmark — one that favours no workshop, chain or dealer.

The Problem We Solve

Most repair pricing online is either US-based, vague national averages, or a lead funnel for a specific repair network. Australian vehicle owners have had no neutral, brand-aware answer to the question that actually matters: what should this repair cost for my car, at an independent workshop versus a dealer, in my state?

We built that answer as a structured dataset: 672 cost estimates across 30 car brands and 24 repair types, calibrated to Australian workshop pricing and state-specific labour rates.

How Estimates Are Built

Our models are mechanical, not editorial. Every estimate is derived from:

• Published Australian workshop pricing and dealer service schedules
• Brand-level cost modelling (European parts premiums, budget-brand discounts)
• State-by-state labour rate data from all 8 states and territories
• Ongoing calibration against real user submissions and market changes

Independence

We are not a repair shop and we take no commissions from workshops. We don't sell ranking or placement to mechanics. When a workshop is listed or quoted, it reflects the data — never a paid relationship.

The full dataset behind this site — 672 estimates across 30 brands × 24 repair types — is available for commercial licensing via our Data API. It is built for used-car platforms, fleet management systems, insurance products and developers building automotive cost tools.
